Esker Cycles: Unapologetically Small Batch

If you’re reading about the ordering process with Esker Cycles, you’ve either already ordered your new Esker, or are about to. From the bottom of our hearts ‘THANK YOU’. We’re a tiny team of passionate cyclists doing our best to design and produce some of the coolest 2-wheeled machines for exploring the lands we love so much.

Many who discover Esker Cycles are surprised to find out how differently we operate than other bike brands within our industry. And over the past 2-3 years, we’ve realized just how unique that story is. While most bike brands are sitting on piles of inventory that can often sit for months to years on end, we produce our frames in small batches that we bring into our warehouse in Minneapolis multiple times a year. This allows us to operate independently, update specs and component offerings quicker, keep a close eye on our quality control, and continually make small improvements that equate to a better product. A better product = happier riders.

Each frame or complete bike ordered from Esker Cycles is inspected, prepped, assembled, packed, and shipped from our headquarters here in the US. The amount of frames/bikes we’re able to ship on the weekly can vary due to lots of factors (including daycare being closed), but we do our absolute best to ship out the best products for our customers that we can in the most timely manner we’re able to.

We want to be here for the long haul. And we hope you want to support us on that mission.

Below are some commonly asked questions about the ordering process with Esker Cycles. Please give a read and if you don’t see an answer to the question you have, shoot us a note a info@eskercycles.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Q: Where are your frames manufactured?

All of our frames are manufactured in Taiwan by an incredible group of partners that are recognized as some of the best in the industry.

Q: Where are your frames and complete bikes assembled?

All of our frames and complete bikes are assembled at our HQ just outside of Minneapolis, MN. That is unless you’re ordering a complete bike from one of our amazing Retail Partners - all of those complete bikes are shipped unassembled (unless requested), so that they can work with you on the exact build notes you have for your new Esker.

Q: How big of a company is Esker?

On the regular, we’ve usually got 3-4 folks in the warehouse and 2-3 folks on computers and phones. Each year we’ve been able to build and ship a few more bikes than the year prior, but we’re never going to get to the place where we magically double our production runs…heck, we don’t want to…that sounds down right stressful and unsustainable. You’ll also be happy to know that we’ve got 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a good number of little humans to keep us all happy and busy outside of the workday.

Q: Can I order a frame or complete bike from Esker Cycles directly?

You betcha! If that's your preferred way to order your frame or complete bike, we’re happy to ship directly to you.

Q: Can I order a frame or complete bike through one of Esker's Retail Partners?

Oh fer sure there, bud. In fact, this is kinda our favorite. Our Retail Partners are RAD and so wonderful to work with. Their job is to make your buying experience a bit more hands-on and unique in a way that our little team at Esker doesn’t always have the capacity for.

Give them a call, shoot them an email, slide into their DMs...let them know what you're shopping for and they'll help you out!

Q: Are there places I can go to see/touch/ride the bike that I’m interested in buying?

Possibly! Check out our Retail Partners map and look for the stocking dealers (Blue Pins). Shoot them an email, or give them a phone call and see what they have in stock, or if they have anything on order that they’re waiting for.

You can also check out our roving demo program to see if any of the bikes you’re interested in seeing and trying out will be near you soon.

Q: How long does it take to get a frame/complete bike once I order it?

This is probably the most asked question we get, and unfortunately there isn’t a quick and easy answer. The truth is…the cats out of the bag and more and more folks are discovering Esker Cycles. We used to advertise a couple weeks based on our in-stock inventory…then it was 4-6 weeks…and now it can be closer to 8 weeks at times.

The absolute BEST way to check the shipping ETAs is to add the product that you’re interested in to your shopping cart and start clicking through the checkout process. Based on the number of orders that we have in our system, the checkout page will give you a ‘Shipping ETA’ in the ‘Shipping Methods’ section. And remember, the ‘E’ in ‘ETA’ stands for ‘Estimated’ - we’re doing our best to make estimates on when frames and complete bikes will leave the warehouse, but things happen and those dates can change and shift due to LOTS of factors outside of anyone's control.

Q: If I order a frame or frame/fork, will that ship sooner than a complete bike?

Sometimes! It's best to go off of the ‘Shipping ETA’ dates that are provided on the checkout page, but every blue moon we’re able to dedicate a couple days in the warehouse to frame orders to help get those out to riders sooner. No promises. No guarantees. But we certainly do our best if we’re able to.

Q: Is there ANY way to get my order sooner than the ‘Shipping ETA’ provided on the checkout page?

MAYBE! There are a couple options to look into:

  • Option 1: Time Machine. If you get this figured out…please let us know. There are just some quick changes and adjustments to the space-time continuum we’d like to make…nothing major *pinky-promise*

  • Option 2: Jump over to the map of our Retail Partners and start sending emails and making phone calls. The shops with the blue pins are our ‘Stocking Dealer’ partners and often have inventory of our bikes. If they’ve got what you’re looking for, they’ll work with you to get that frame or complete bike boxed up and shipped out to you.

  • Option 3: ORDER THROUGH A RETAIL PARTNER. Our retail partners take on the responsibility of assembling your bike for you, and therefore help reduce some pretty lengthy time that would otherwise be spent by our crew in the warehouse getting your order ready. Orders placed through our Retail Partners can often ship in slightly shorter lead-times than what our ‘Shipping ETA’ dates may read.

Q: When I order a complete bike directly from Esker Cycles, do I need to do the full assembly?

You do not. We fully assemble your bike, test-ride it, teach it the Leave No Trace Principles and how to cook with a dutch oven, pack it up, and ship it to you. When you receive it, you’ll need to install the front wheel, attach the handlebars, add the provided tire sealant, and make any final fit adjustments you may need.

Q: Can you ship a complete bike to me disassembled?

No. If you have very specific build needs and instructions, please order your Esker through one of our amazing Retail Partners so they can assist you with your specific needs!

Q: Will there ever be a time in which I can order a frame or bike and get it right away?

That's a wonderful question. We’re not sure yet. If we could wave a magical wand and be able to ship our frames and complete bikes nearly instantaneously while maintaining the quality and sustainability of our business in a responsible way, we most certainly would. But speed isn’t our goal. Much like many of you who are taking our bikes on big adventures, we’re not focused on getting to the destination as quickly as we can. We’re focused on the process, the quality of the journey, and the people we get to meet along the way.

We hope those values resonate with you, and we’re excited to meet you along the way.

And while we may not have that magic wand, we have a growing list of Retail Partners that are working in part to grow the available Esker inventory they have on hand. Reach out to them to find out if they have the frame or complete bike you're looking for!
